Weekend on the Isle of Man

We have got into the habit of getting away for a weekend without the kids in the late autumn. Due to a general obsession with islands, we ended up on the Isle of Man.

As always, you only really start learning about a place with interest when you are travelling there. The Isle of Man is stacked with history and intersting things to do. It obviously isn't a place for an autumn trip to the sun, but if you know what you are geeting into and are up for getting out to explore a place and its culture, I think its an amazing place.

Oh, just make sure you like trains.

Act 1: Douglas & Laxey

Would have loved to get the boat, but at this time of year flying was our only option. The trip from the airport to Douglas isn't the most scenic, so don't judge the place too soon!

Field Notes

• TT Trikes - An absolute blast for anyone who is up for it. The guys at NAME OF TT BIKE PLACE were amazing, and it is such an experience to blast around the TT track. You have to experience the rear grip on the trike to beleive it!
• Queenies - Park Hotel.
• Trains trains trains. Just do all the trains. They are all great.

The Basecamps

• Douglas: Apt Regina – There is something both lovely and rubbish about these old hotels; if you have ever visited one you will know. I can't help falling for the old school charm and have a soft spot for anyone brave and adventureous enough to keep one running. I loved it, but you have to know what you are getting yourself into!
